My agency are doing a great initiative: Isobar Create.

Here is the rundown on our London event...

Isobar Create London takes place on 24th and 25th March.

We’ve partnered with O2 to put on the UK’s first NFC hackathon that brings together developers                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        and designers to pioneer new uses of Near Field Communication.

Near Field Communication (NFC) allows phones and other devices to communicate with one another simply by touch.

NFC will let us make transactions and exchange digital content in totally new ways. We believe that this technology will have a massive impact on all our lives, and this event will accelerate our understanding about how brands can harness the technology.

Participants at Isobar Create London will be asked to create apps in the areas where we feel NFC will have the biggest impact: the retail space, the leisure & entertainment industry, on payments and at sports events – each category having a brand sponsor. Adidas and Kellogg’s are some of those sponsors.

We’ve also got a number of other sponsors involved all helping to make the event a success: Google, Samsung, Blackberry, Guardian, Contagious and Posterscope to name a few.

We’ll follow up with details of the apps created post-event, but to find out more visit http://www.isobar.com/createlondon

Facebook unveils its mobile ads platform

The details were leaked fairly heavily in advance, so relatively few surprises, but Facebook has unveiled its mobile advertising platform. Sponsored stories can now appear in the news feed of users on Facebook's iPhone and Android apps, as well as its mobile site. For now, this will only happen in the US, with other countries to get the feature "in the coming months" according to Facebook.

The sponsored stories will work in the same way as on Facebook's website: ads showing which of a user's friends have Liked or status updated about a brand who's spending money on ads. "Just as on the desktop, people will only see Sponsored Stories on mobile if their friends' privacy settings allow them to see the story," says Facebook.
